3 great fishing tips for beginners

Best seasons to fish

Generally speaking, warm seasons, between October and March, are best to find most species, especially in saltwater regions. In rivers, it is better to choose the flood periods, which vary from region to region.

This does not mean that at other times there are no fish. On the contrary, they will be there, but in smaller quantities, or not as active.

Now, if you are not confident and want something even easier, look for a fishing ground, or fish-and-pay as it is known in some regions of the country, because there are plenty of fish there all year round.

Fishing equipment for beginners

Although it works in some places, a bamboo pole with line and hook is not enough for really effective fishing. Getting better equipment makes things easier and more fun! Let’s look at some of them:

Fishing Rod

Hollow fiberglass rods are cheaper and can be a good option for beginners. The ideal length for learning should be around 2.5 to 3 meters.

Reel Type

When fishing in the sea, large lakes, or rivers, the reel or spool is very important for getting quick responses when a fish takes the bait. Not using them will make your range shorter, yet still be fun.

Line Type

As the idea is to start the practice looking for smaller fish, lines between 6 and 10 pounds are a good size if you don’t use a reel. With a reel, you should use lines between 10 and 14 pounds.

Hook and line

For now, just concentrate on choosing a bait and hook size that is compatible with the size of the fish where you intend to fish. To do this, research in advance about the fish in the area

MISC

Always carry a pocket knife, a flashlight, a bag for carrying your fish, and another for your equipment. Also keep fishing lures and floats on hand – the lures make the hook sink, and the float lets you know where your bait is.

Equipment Handling

During fishing

If a fish takes the bait, don’t pull too hard on it, as you may break its mouth and lose it. Bring the fish close to you, and if it’s a big one, pull it out of the water with the help of a piece of fish-restraining pliers.

Also, remember that a pull on your rod doesn’t always mean that a fish has taken the bait. Sometimes you may have snagged the hook on something, so be careful not to snag the line or break the rod.

And if you are not catching any fish, be patient, change places from time to time. This is very normal in beginner fishing.

After fishing

Finally, don’t be sloppy. Clean and put the equipment in the correct protective covers, organized in your bag, because this guarantees its useful life.

Finally, sport fishing can be a lot of fun and relaxing, but it must be done in the right way and with quality equipment.
